Shramadaana on 17.03.2019 onwards & Suthu gopura roof repair works

"Shramadaana" on 17.03.2019 onwards & Suthu Gopura Roof Repair Works

Jeernoddhara Samithi, in association with Youth wing Mahila wing with the help of regional samithis will be carrying out "Shramadaana" work on 17th march 2019 from 8:30 AM onwards.

The tiles of the Suthugopurams will be removed as a prelude to the repair & renovation of the wooden roofs of these gopuras. We plan to re-lay the tiles after finishing the wood works and cleaning the tiles within a span of a month. Large number of volunters are expected to participate in this event, which may go on for few days.

As part of the Muhurtam for starting this work, Carpenters with the help of volunteers, removed few tiles on 16.03.2019 forenoon.

17.03.2019:

It was a great day for all of us who experienced the single minded devotion of all the Shramadaanis gathered in the temple - with a “dhyeyavakyam” of “Work is Worship”. 💐

With around 120-130 people around, the job of de-roofing of all the 4 gopurams were over in less than 2 hours! Members of Mathrumandali, youth wing, pradeshika committees (eg: Vishnumoorthy Seva Samithi, Vishnumoorthy Nagara, Podipalla), along with villagers - were active participants, ignoring the really hot climatic conditions.

Once the tiles were removed, the roofs were cleaned and batches of Shramadaanis cleaned the removed tiles and arranged them - piled in order. The debris on the ground was also cleared.

Mr. Yogiraj, who has undertaken the Copper work, also visited today to oversee the *finishing stages* of spray-painting and fixing of the decorative brass plates at the edges of the roofs. The Garbhagudi & Theerthamantaps are already looking majestic.

Morning Tiffin & at noon - tasty sumptuous lunch was provided to the devotees. Mr. Girish Bhat & Mr. Ganaraj Bhat served in the kitchen.

An impromptu Committee meeting was held soon after the lunch, in which the following decisions were made:

  • The carpenters will start working from tomorrow itself, identifying damaged wood, quantity of wood to purchased, and continue repairing the roof.
  • It was decided to give paint coating to the wood, before re-laying of tiles.
  • It was decided to spray paint the tiles. Mr. Venugopal Choorikodu was entrusted the work of machine-washing of tiles and painting them.
  • “Arikkottlu” (Naivaidyam preparing room) has to be repaired on a priority basis.
  • Theerthamantap’s platform has to be made of granite stone.
  • It was estimated that appoximately 350-400 “haasukallu” (Floor granite tiles) will be required for covering the floor of inner prangana - (each costing approx ₹ 500) + labour expenses. It was decided to explore the ways of getting it sponsored in sections / per stone etc.
  • Preparations for plastering the elevated, surrounding, walls of the temple -in the form of procuring cement bags, sand & gravel (jully).
  • Agrashala foundation work needs to be started once the suttambala roof work gets over.
  • Dhoomavathi Daivasthanam’s remaining work also will be taken up once suttambala roof work gets over.

We once again thank whole-heartedly each and everybody who volunteered today, especially the “maatheyaru” & young turks.

Dr Kishore Kumar Ubrangala
